One thing that always stood out to me with drivers was that when the HD5870 was popular, there was a commonly talked about bug where you'd just get a grey screen during gameplay (Nicknamed the Grey Screen of Death) and despite having a multi-screen HD4890 CFX setup (Apparently multiple screens and CFX was a very buggy setup going by forum posts at the time) I only ever got the GSOD in TF2 and resolved the problem entirely by going slightly less hard on my system memory overclock.

I hope that rDNA2 is successful enough for AMD to warrant expanding their driver teams to try and overtake nVidia in terms of featureset within a few generations, I think they kinda need to for the marketing it'd provide in opposition to the unstable drivers stigma surrounding them at this point.

I'd say from talking to others and general interest in older PC hardware that the early Radeons did have worse launch drivers in general but had improved by the time of the Radeon 9000 series, but that nVidia's had spotty periods too such as the year after Vista's launch and these days, nVidia has more features but driver stability and quality for the most important bits are basically equal.

That's basically how I've felt about the driver situation, I've had bad experiences with both at times and good experiences with both most of the time. Posts should be about hardware news, reviews, technical discussion or how-tos and buyers guides. Insults and personal attacks aren't welcome here. TL DR: If you can't say something respectfully, don't say it at all. This includes tech support and PC building questions. r/hardware is not the place to come for help of any kind.
